Signaling Zarathustra
Photographic documentation provides context to the objects I make, allowing them to exist outside the confines of the gallery space and develop their own character. The piece, Signaling Zarathustra (2014), includes a pair of semaphore flags and documentation from a cathartic doorstep performance. While the performance was witnessed by only a handful of curious neighbors, the flags serve as a sculptural artifact of the performance. In this way, many of my works live two separate lives: as props and as material relics.
